Playing with Portraits

Service Description

Playing with Portraits is a three week oil painting short course designed for everyone to enjoy. Whether you are new to oil painting, or have worked with the medium before, there will be something for you in these relaxing, and informative, evening sessions. In this course we will investigate traditional portraits but also offer the opportunity to play with the subject matter. We'll look at how caricatures, collage, and proportion can affect this popular art form. We will play with it. Of course it is not an expectation to manipulate your work in this way, but the opportunity will be there. We will also experiment with short warm up painting exercises such as minimising brush strokes, using a monochromatic palette, and painting with rags. Short drawing exercises such as timed and blind drawings will also be utilised to warm up and help with compositional decisions. The classes will be led by Andrew Lang, an experienced art teacher of over twenty years and the owner of Primary Colours Art School. All materials and equipment are supplied including a professionally stretched 14"x18" canvas. There will be snacks supplied and access to the kitchen where you can make a cup of tea or chill your drinks. The cost is $150 for the three two hour sessions. I hope you can join us.
