Service Description
These classes are social and creative, the best way to spend time after school and make new friends. The sessions are developed from the interests and needs of the students. Student voice is very important at Primary Colours. The term usually begins with discovery through the use of provocations. The students talk about what they want to make, what they enjoy making, what they think they're good at, and what they want to explore. The course is developed around these discussions. This approach can lead us in many directions. Sometimes the learning will be very formal or it may develop organically. The time frame can be flexible as it is important not to rush the creative process, especially in a social environment. It has been our experience that this is the best way for children to learn. It is also the most fun. Most terms begin with a ceramics unit that sits in the background for the rest of the term. The clay needs time to dry completely, be fired at Northcote Pottery, coloured and glazed before being fired again. It's a long process that usually takes the whole term. Due to the length of this process students are encouraged to book for the whole term in advance. Consistency is important in allowing us to explore larger projects, but it also means students get to complete the lengthy ceramic process, which they love. A healthy snack is provided at all sessions and the use of all the materials and equipment is included in the price. A sketchbook is recommended and clothes that can get dirty. NOTE: Art classes begin in week two of the school term.
