Service Description

These classes are social and creative, the best way to spend time after school and make new friends. The sessions are often developed from the interests and needs of the students. Student voice is very important at Primary Colours, as is student safety, and a feeling of belonging. Antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated. The term usually begins with discovery through the use of provocations. We try everything: painting, printmaking, drawing, sculpture...and more. The students talk about what they want to make, what they enjoy making, what they think they're good at, and what they want to explore. The course is developed around these discussions. This approach can lead us in many directions. Sometimes the learning will be very formal or it may develop organically. The time frame can be flexible as it is important not to rush the creative process, especially in a social environment. It has been our experience that this is the best way to learn. It is also the most fun. Most terms begin with a ceramics unit that sits in the background for the rest of the term. The clay needs time to dry completely, be fired at Northcote Pottery, coloured and glazed before being fired again. It's a long process that usually takes the whole term. Due to the length of this process students are encouraged to book for the whole term in advance. Consistency is important in allowing us to explore larger projects, but it also means students get to complete the lengthy ceramic process, which they love and look forward to finishing. If you book the term you will receive a $15 discount! Term booking will not be available after the first week of classes except by special request. A healthy snack is provided at all sessions as well as cool drinking water. Please do not supply snacks, such as hot chips, or bring water bottles. Excessive snacks can make other students feel excluded, and water bottles are often left behind. The use of all the materials and equipment is included in the price. NOTE: Art classes begin in week two of the school term.
